Mattress tape is the new trend; not only mattress manufacturers, but also retail customers, recognize the value of mattress tape. Mattress tape is also useful for enhancing the interior design of your room. Mattress binding tapes are currently among the most in-demand products all over the world. Mattress manufacturers today rely heavily on mattress tape to enhance their brand identity.

There are two types of mattress tape available Knitted mattress tape and woven mattress tape.

In the early days, all the mattress tape was made of woven. Then, about 15 years ago, CT Nassau, the industry's largest tape supplier, introduced knit versions. CT Nassau is among the largest supplier of mattress tape and is among the trendsetter in the mattress tape industry. CT Nassau sets a benchmark for mattress tape industry manufacturers.

"Knits and woven have distinct aesthetics," says Taber Wood, national account director for CT Nassau Tape-Ticking LLC in Alamance, North Carolina.

"Woven designs are attractive, but knits design is more flexible and are stretchable, and because woven can be manufactured with less yarn, they are less expensive." Knits also enable you for using more opulent yarns, such as chenille and Taslan."

Difference Between Woven And Knitted Mattress Tape

The average woven tape requires 300 to 420 pounds of pressure before snapping. It ranges from 20 to 100 pounds for knits. What type of mattress tape mattress manufacturers need is all about the perception and demand of the mattress tape.

Let’s look into the difference between woven and knitted mattress tape:

  • Knit mattress tapes are simpler to make and use less material than woven mattress tape. Woven mattress tape necessitates a greater amount of raw material from manufacturers.

  • Knit mattress tapes are less expensive, so their manufacturing costs are lower, whereas woven mattress tapes are more expensive because the raw material required to produce the same amount of mattress tape is expensive.

  • A woven mattress tape may be more decorative in design, but knits provide more movement and stretch and can be less expensive because they can be made with less (yarn) weight.

  • All of the tape suppliers Bedtimes spoke with provided both woven (on a loom) and knit tapes (produced on knitting machines)

  • Knit mattress tapes are weaker than woven mattress tapes.

  • Woven mattress tapes work well for making designer mattress tapes. Woven mattress tapes enable manufacturers to create one-of-a-kind designs.

  • Knitted mattress tape has grown in popularity in recent years due to its stretchability and availability in solid colours.

Summing Up

Currently, approximately 80% of Bo-Buck Mills' production is woven, but prior to 2002, the split was approximately 40% knits and 60% woven. Knits have a higher sheen, but they do not accept dye or printing as well as woven. According to suppliers, preferences for the two constructions are cyclical. A current trend is to use a solid-color knit with a lot of polypropylene yarn to add a bit of shine or bulk to the border.
